How we live out this in our school – a celebration of excellence

Our Biblical underpinning, 1 Corinthians 16:14, ‘Let all that you do be done in love,’ alongside our school values are at the core of all we do. Every individual is cherished as a unique and special child of God and their individual needs are catered for in a way that ensures they grow and flourish.

Respect is one of our core values and this, alongside dignity, is lived out in every interaction between all members of our inclusive school community.  

How we achieved this

We are passionate about developing children’s understanding and respect of others. Behavioural procedures are restorative and carried out in love, whilst nurturing and developing pupil to pupil and pupil to teacher relationships. Children treat all other children with dignity and respect, irrespective of need or year group. All children feel listened to and our Pupil Voice group ensures everyone is heard.

We recruit staff carefully, who share a strong moral compass and a desire to put children first. Staff are excellent role models and sources of support to parents and carers.

Picture News also helps us provide the children with weekly opportunities to learn from our world and develop respect for others' beliefs, feelings and faiths.

The difference that it makes

Our curriculum has interwoven threads of dignity and respect.  Enriching opportunities to broaden the horizons of our children are scheduled across the year so that difference, diversity and ways of living are discussed regularly. We do this through Picture News, Black History Month, collective worship, and engagement with politics through Parliament Week and visiting the Houses of Parliament.

Staff frequently go ‘the extra mile’ to ensure the wellbeing of the whole school community. They are highly valued by the community and this allows them to flourish.

Our children’s behaviour is excellent and incidents of negative behaviour are rare. Children know they will be treated with dignity and respect and will receive a fresh start and forgiveness.

We know our families well and provide bespoke support in the way that fits best and these include:

• Supportive dropping off / collection arrangements for those who need it;
• Mrs Beaver’s hot chocolate for children with anxiety and attachment issues or who are new to the school and need a little ‘TLC’;
• Leaders going above and beyond to ensure children are in school on time;
• Signposting and referring families to support with no stigma;  
• Delivering food parcels to families;
• Providing before and after school care;
• Being a gathering point for the community wishing to support Ukrainian families and others in the community who are in need.
